Cycling Cambodia 13 Days


Day 1: Arrive in Siem Reap (D)

Upon arrival you will meet your local guide and will be transferred to your hotel. For the rest of the day you are free to relax and acclimatize. In the evening, you will be taken to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Explore Angkor Temples by bike (B/L)

Meet your specialist temple and cycle guides and take possession of your bike. Begin your cycle exploration of the Angkor temples, focusing on the Small Circuit which features temples such as: the pyramid of Takeo, the jungle-clad Ta Prohm, Sras Srang, and the impressive Royal City of Angkor Thom. Following lunch, visit majestic Angkor Wat. After returning to your hotel, you are free to experience Siem Reap’s nightlife.

Day 3: Cycle to Banteay Srei Temple (B/L/D)

Ride to Banteay Srei and stop off at a couple of villages to get a closer look at the wooden stilted homes and local life. Visit Banteay Srei Temple and have lunch at a nearby village before cycling back towards Siem Reap. If there is still time left you can explore some of the temples on the Grand Circuit such as: Preah Khan, Neak Pean and Banteay Kdei. In the evening, be treated to dinner and enjoy a mesmerizing Apsara dance performance.

Day 4: Siem Reap (B/L/D)

Breakfast at your hotel. Transfer to Tonle sap where you board a small wooden boat for the journey to the floating and stilted village of Kompong Phluk and witness this incredible floating community. Depending on the lake level you will also have the surreal experience of being paddled amongst tree tops as you explore the flooded enchanted forest and witness the vast expanse of the Tonle Sap Lake, the largest in South East Asia. (Note: Due to low water levels during the dry season, the boat trip is only possible from July to March. However an alternative floating village at Chong Kneas can be arranged instead).

Return to Siem Reap in the afternoon. After lunch, visit Angkor National Museum and Cambodia Land Mine Museum. Return to your hotel for refreshment before dinner.

Day 5: Cycle to Kompong Cham (B/L)

Leave Siem Reap and cycle on the ancient highway of Khmer empire. After lunch at Kompong Kdei you will be transferred to Kompong Cham. If you wish, you can cycle the final 30 km into town. After check-in to your hotel, explore Kompong Cham by foot.

Day 6: Cycle from Kompong Cham to Phnom Penh (B/L/D)

Follow the course of the Mekong River towards Phnom Penh. Foreigners are rare through these areas, so expect a few surprised faces as you cycle through the many traditional villages. You will witness people busy with their everyday lives; cooking, cleaning, playing and leading the cows to the river. Pass by cycling school kids and see pagodas and monks. Watch the sun drying bright red chilies, pepper, rice and fish by the side of the road, and experience the river life of the mighty Mekong, which will keep coming in and out of view. There are plenty of shady and scenic spots for rest breaks, where curious locals are sure to say “Hello.” 40 kilometers from Phnom Penh we come to the main busy Highway 6 heading to the capital, from here you can choose to travel in the support vehicle or continue cycling to the city. Once you have checked in to your Phnom Penh hotel, you will be taken to a local restaurant for dinner.

Day 7: Phnom Penh City Cyclo Tour (B/L)

Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Phnom Penh by cyclo, a traditional mode of local transport. Visit the National Museum, which offers a comprehensive collection of Khmer artifacts. Afterward, visit the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. Your cyclo driver will then take you to a local restaurant for lunch. Afterward, visit the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum. Then visit the Russian Market. Return to your hotel and spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Day 8: Cycle from Phnom Penh to Koh Dach (B/L)

Follow the Mekong River north to the outskirts of Phnom Penh. After about 15km, take a ferry to the island of Koh Dach or Silk Weaving Island. On the other side of the island, take another ferry and cross to the far bank of the Mekong River. Cycle south along dirt roads and through small villages to take your final ferry ride which you drops off in Phnom Penh. The rest of the evening is free at leisure.

Overnight in Koh Dach.

Day 9: Cycle from Phnom Penh to Takeo (B/L/D)

Ride from Phnom Penh to Cheoung Ek, known as the 'Killing Fields'. This is where Toul Sleng prisoners were forcibly marched and then executed; it is now a memorial. After some contemplation here, continue south to Tonle Bati and explore the Angkorian temples of Ta Prohm and Yeay Peau. After a picnic lunch, continue towards Takeo. Upon arrival, check in to your guesthouse and have time to explore the area.

Day 10: Cycle from Takeo to Kampot (B/L)

As you leave Takeo, continue south along Highway 3 for the coastal mountains. Cycle through some pleasant limestone karst scenery, picturesque villages and rice fields to arrive at Kampot. It’s a sleepy, charming place with a relaxed ambience and friendly locals; the streets are quiet and there are a lot of French colonial buildings. The wonderful riverfront makes it possible to experience possibly the most beautiful sunset in Cambodia as the sun slips down behind the nearby mountains.

Overnight in Kampot

Day 11: Cycle from Kampot to Sihanouk Ville (B/L/D)

After 7 days of cycling in Cambodia you will be in top condition for the last and longest day as you face the 105 kilometers (65 miles) to the seaside resort town of Sihanouk Ville. For the first half of the ride, you cycle along the mountains of Bokor National Park and the sea; providing great views, particularly as we pass picturesque fishing villages. You will have a picnic lunch beside a large lake where you can take a refreshing swim. The final 25 kilometers hold a few challenging climbs. On arrival in Sihanouk Ville, check-in to your hotel and be treated to a wonderful seafood dinner.

Day 12: Free Day in Sihanouk Ville (B)

Today is yours to enjoy, savor your achievement and reflect on the fascinating sights, sounds and smells you experienced as well as the many friendly Khmers who encouraged you on your way. Perhaps you just want to relax on the beach enjoying the fresh and cheap seafood. If you still have some energy left you can explore all of Sihanouk Ville's seven beaches or charter a boat and take a day trip to the beautiful islands in the surrounding.

Day 13: Sihanouk Ville to Phnom Penh (B)

Today you travel back to Phnom Penh in the support vehicle (4-5 hours), from where you are free to continue your onward journey, taking with you a host of unforgettable memories.
